Westampton Board Election Issue
We are aware of a Facebook posting, and wish to clarify any rumor or misinformation. By statute, NJSA Title 19, neither the Board of Education nor the Superintendent of Schools is permitted to certify an election. As the Westampton Board Election Issue is currently before the court, we are awaiting the court's resolution after which we can present the public and taxpayers with accurate and complete information.
On Wednesday, October 26, 2016, we were informed of an error on the 2016 Westampton Board of Education Election Ballot. The length of the term in two of the five Board seats was presented incorrectly. There should have been three, three year seats, one, two year seat and one, one year seat. An unsuccessful attempt to correct the error was made in August. The error was a result of a clerical mistake that has been corrected for the future.
In order to ensure that votes casted in the November election reflect election winners, we have taken a number of actions:
· Our Board Solicitor was contacted with our Action Plan
· The Superintendent of Elections was contacted
· Our Board Solicitor met with candidates/their attorney to sign our Action Plan agreement
· The Action plan was submitted to the Superior Court for validation of the election
Please feel free to contact Virginia Grossman, Superintendent of Schools at 609-267-2053 x 1505 if you have any questions.
